Well friends, has it sunk in yet that we’re officially in a brand-new year? We’re just about half-way through January 2020 already. The year 2020…sounds crazy to say it, but here we are! I swear, the older I get, the more time seems to fly by faster and faster. I know everyone says that, but that’s because it’s true! It makes me realize how precious time really is, and how important it is to savor it. I guess that’s why I love scrapbooking so much – it’s a beautiful way to capture, document, and relive those precious moments throughout the year. And you best believe that with the new year comes everyone’s goals and aspirations. I personally have multiple goals that pertain to each area of my life – health, relationships, faith, self-care, and recreation. I try to keep them simple so I can make little by little progress throughout the year and not feel defeated by February, ha!
And there’s one goal of mine that I’m super excited about sharing with fellow creatives – maybe you resonate with it or you have a similar goal! Essentially, is it to be intentional about enjoying scrapbooking and to take little by little steps to turn scrapbooking into my career. That is one of my biggest dreams! Scrapbooking has become such a passion of mine - it’s how I express my creativity, capture my favorite moments, and savor what means the most to me. I love that I can document memories and celebrate the people, places, and things I love.
Naturally, I decided the commemorate my 2020 scrapbooking goal with its own scrapbooking layout! I wanted to create something special to remind me every day what I want to savor and work toward. The way I go about goal setting is creating a simple overarching goal and coming up with a few specific action steps to work on throughout the year that will get me closer to achieving that goal. So, I decided to journal these action steps into my scrapbook layout! Pretty fun, right?
As far as choosing a photo, I picked out one from a photoshoot I had done before my blog launch in 2017. I felt it was perfect because it’s a picture of me scrapbooking and doing what I love most. It’s a photo that represents what I want to cultivate in the year ahead.
I decided to use my two favorite collections from 2019 to create this layout – the Sunny Days and Heritage collections! Vibrant colors and florals are always my go-to, and Maggie Holmes does an amazing job bringing those to life in all her collections.
To start, I picked my base paper and arranged where I wanted my photo to sit. I knew I wanted to incorporate some journaling of my goal action steps in a creative way. So, I decided to create a series of waterfall flip-up tabs to one side of the layout that I could put my journaling underneath.
I picked some more patterned papers, a different one for each tab. I kept the bottom one 12 inches tall so it would reach all the way down to the bottom of the base paper. Each one above I made a little shorter, so they overlapped nicely. To make it easy to lift each tab, I adhered a chipboard sticker to each one. I stuck down the upper half portions of the chipboard pieces onto their specific tabs, but then backed the lower exposed half portions with white card stock so they wouldn’t stick to the lower tabs. This made for some fun dimension and an interactive element! I then added my journaling listing my goal action steps underneath the tabs.
To the right side of the layout, I placed my photo. I backed the photo with white cardstock first, then layered it on top of a couple more patterned papers. I added chipboard and cardstock stickers to add dimension. My favorite piece is the gorgeous pink floral to the bottom right corner! I added even more floral sticks peeking out underneath to create a floral cluster, which I absolutely love.
Additionally, I added the “This is my happy place” sticker, which is the perfect representation for this photo and layout. Above that, I stuck down a little purple chipboard heart to signify my love for scrapbooking. And to the top of my photo, I used the “This is lovely” chipboard phrase layered with another floral and swan chipboard.
I am obsessed with how gorgeous this layout turned out. It’s such a pretty way to remind me of my creative goal and I can’t wait to display it somewhere I can see it every day. I feel like this was such a fun, creative, and inspirational idea – to use your craft to get you excited and motivated about your goals! It’s so important to make time for the things you love. I hope you all make time for your passions this year and that you feel inspired by this goal journaling scrapbook layout!
