Is anyone else counting down the days till Christmas? We have a cute little decorative letter board in our kitchen that we’re using to count down the days and it’s got me so excited! And speaking of décor, I’ve got a super fun Christmas craft idea that I’ve been itching to share with you all. It’s been such an incredible December, and I’m so grateful for all the adventures and memories we’ve made so far. I wanted to be intentional about taking the time to savor this Christmas season by doing fun activities. To do this, I decided to create a decorative box full of fun “Winter Adventures” I wanted to do this month!
I started with an ordinary wooden box I got from Michael’s. After measuring the dimensions, I trimmed pieces of patterned paper to match and adhere to its shape. This included the front and back of the box, the two sides of the box, and the top and sides of the lid. Once the box was covered with my chosen patterned papers, I began the fun part – the embellishing!
I used a variety of different embellishments including chipboard stickers, ephemera, cardstock & clear stickers, puffy stickers, and washi tape. Dimension was a big goal for me because I wanted to make this box really interactive and exciting. As you can see, I incorporated a lot of layering, which I feel adds to the magical Christmas vibe.
I wanted the front of the box to be decorated, I also wanted to add something to the top of the lid. I decided to spell out “Winter Adventures” using the gold puffy phrases and the black foam alpha stickers. With just a couple more embellishment stickers to the top, my box was complete! It now sits displayed in my home full of Christmas adventures we wanted to tackle this month. Things like: spontaneously getting hot chocolate from Starbucks, watching our favorite Christmas movie in the dim Christmas lights, taking a walk around the neighborhood to see everyone’s decorations, a cozy indoor picnic dinner, a gift wrapping date night, trying a new cookie recipe, and more!
There are so many different ways to use a decorative Christmas box. And the cool thing is that you can use this Christmas box every year, whether you use it for the same purpose or switch things up every year. What made it really special for me is that we’ve created a new Christmas memento and tradition using this sweet little box. And it looks super cute displayed in the house as a décor piece.
