Star Christmas Layout with Flora

Hi Ladies! It's Flóra here today. I am super excited to share my very first Christmas project this season. I used the new and cute and awesome Snowflake collection. I love this line so much! The colors and the design is so me. I know it's a winter-themed collection but I think you can also use it with Christmas photos. What is more, for wedding photos as I did.

 

 

The whole page is based on the Specialty Paper called Joyous. This has lots of cute stars with shiny foil. I fussy cut many pieces and fold them using Scoring Board and Bone Folder. This way I turn them into origami-style 3D stars. To keep the dimensional look I just added one dot of foam tape in the middle of the back.

 

 

I scattered all the pieces on the top of my page and completed them with puffy stars from the Thickers sheet. I just love how this idea turned out!

 

 

I wanted to keep the focus on the photo and the gorgeous paper stars so I didn't use too many embellishments. I added next to the photo some cardstock and Puffy Stickers, Chipboards along with Ephemera pieces. I always love to add phrase sticker to my pages but in this collection I didn't find the right ones so I grabbed a few from the Heritage Clear Sticker Book. It's so cool how you can mix and match the different Crate Paper collections!

Gratitude Mini Album

Hello Crate Paper friends!! Lorilei here today, sharing a mini gratitude album I made using the pretty Heritage collection by Maggie Holmes! This time of year is the perfect inspiration for giving thanks for all we have in our life!
I made my album from some chipboard and used the gorgeous wood grain paper for my exterior cover! The paper can be found in the Heritage Project Pad from Joanns. The album measures about 4”x6” with a 1 1/2” spine.

I made two traveller’s notebook type inserts for my album using heavyweight printer paper. I printed out a bunch of photos, and while at my computer, I printed a sheet of journaling strips that would go with the photos. I kept my pages quite clean and simple and let the embellishments, photos and journal strips do the work!

On the next page, I decided to add more journaling and used my typewriter on some plain paper. I added a vellum flap with vellum die cut and clear flower stick on top.

I love the pretty gold leaves that come in the Heritage collection and took a few minutes to stitch them in rows onto the next page. The leaves were perfect for adding on my thankful for an autumn page!

Another of my favourites from Heritage is the prize ribbons! I added one to this page with a floral sticker!

Love the pretty lavender touches in the Heritage collection; it goes so well with the mustard colour!

Here you can see how the inserts sit in the album. The elastic gave me the perfect place to add one of the gorgeous charms! I love how it looks and feels on the album.

Once I finished my inside pages, I decided to jazz up the cover a bit. I fussy cut some sentiments from the Lifetime paper (reverse side of the woodgrain) and collaged them onto the cover. I added some paint splatters in tan, black and white to tie in the sentiments. I added a few clear stickers and some fussy cut florals from the same paper.

What is a December Daily?

Can you believe December is just 1 week away!? We can't believe how fast this year has gone by, but we are so excited to enter the Christmas season. 

One of our favorite holidays traditions is creating a December Daily album. A December Daily is a mini album specifically created to document the magic of December. Not only does it encourage us to scrapbook and document every single day in the month, but it also helps us remember what really matters. Since we've been creating them for years, we have a whole collection of albums that we love to look through annually. They have become such a treasure!

There are a variety of ways you can create your album! For example, we created each page in our album beforehand using our latest Snowflake collection. We just made sure to leave room for an instax image and little but of journaling. But, we know many people who create a different spread each day! This is a fun way to make sure you are creating something every day in December! What a fun way to spend the holidays! 

Just like an advent calendar, we love to add the date as we countdown to Christmas! It just adds to the anticipation and helps us stay organized!

To add a little extra detail to our album, we stitched the edge of each page. It takes a little bit of time but certainly adds a gorgeous detail. 

A December Daily album is an excellent way to celebrate the beautiful month of December and document all of the special little moments. We are already so excited to see the albums you create with Snowflake! Don't forget to tag us #createwithcrate #cpsnowflake!

Thanksgiving Tabletop Decor with Enza

Hello, CP friends! Enza here, and today I'm back with a simple and easy Thanksgiving project. I mainly used the Designer Destination 12x12 Paper Pad that you can find at JoAnn stores, with bits and pieces from the rest of the Heritage collection and Metal Clips from Sunny Days.

Planning our Thanksgiving dinner involves tabletop décor and party favors for our guest. When I started thinking about it for this year, I thought it would be fun to make a big cluster of embellishments with sentiments of gratitude for our family and friends to take home and re-use if they wanted to. They're perfect additions to gifts, scrapbook layouts, cards, but they could also serve as home décor pieces.

I started by cutting several leaves with my electronic die-cutting machine. I used the gorgeous glitter paper from the Project Pad for a festive look, and patterned paper from the collection. To assemble them, I layered a doily, a glitter leaf, a patterned paper leaf, and a variety of stickers and ephemera pieces on top.

For the first one, I used a craft die from my stash to cut some foliage to place in between the layers. I chose a beautiful flower with gold foil accents from the Chipboard Sticker Sheet, and a “Thankful” banner from the Project Pad. I then wrapped twine around the whole cluster for a rustic feel and finished the piece with a metal clip.

The second one is very similar, but features different embellishments.

Again, I die cut foliage from patterned paper to add to the layers, and used a journaling element and a sentiment puffy sticker on top. Wrapped twine around it and finished it with the clip.

I'm so excited to decorate my dinner table with them, and I hope our guests will appreciate them too!

Personalized Thanksgiving Place Setting

Hi everyone! It’s Amber here, and I can’t believe we are already so close to Thanksgiving! It’s an incredible season, where we focus on what truly matters and intentionally cultivate gratitude. I have been blessed with so many reasons to be thankful, but the people in my life are what I treasure the most.

 

I wanted to do something creative to show them how grateful I am for the joy they bring to my life – something I could personalize for each person. The idea was to have a personalized place setting for each person at our table this Thanksgiving. I felt the perfect way to do this would be to create an embellish envelope with a personalized card inside.

I decided to use the Heritage collection because it’s so warm and embodies the essence of gratitude and family. The colors worked perfect for a Fall or Thanksgiving project.

I began by using the 1-2-3 Punchboard by We R Memory Keepers to create my envelopes. I sized my envelopes to 4.5 inches tall by 6 inches wide simply by following the instructions on the punchboard. Once those were done, I wrote down a personalized message into the cards from the Heritage boxed card set.

These were truly the perfect size and matched the envelopes beautifully. I inserted the cards into their designated envelopes and used the wax seals to secure them closed. Again, another simply perfect item that added such a sweet and creative touch.

Then came the embellishing! I added a doily over the top of each envelope, folding it over at the halfway point to some covered the front and the backside. Additionally, I used a white clothespin on each envelop. I also added a small paper flower rose cluster around each clothespin.

These details created some similarity and uniform to each envelope. But each was still unique and different once I began adding more embellishments. I used a mix of stickers, ephemera, and chipboard. To finished them off, I then used the gold alpha stickers to spell out each person’s name on their specific envelope.

And there you have it! Pretty, personalized envelopes that you can use as place settings as well as “thank you” messages for each person at your Thanksgiving table this year. They were so easy and fun to make. Not to mention they’ll be sure to add a scrappy touch to your table-scape. It’s a lovely way to get crafty with a purpose of expressing gratitude to those you love. DIY Advent Calendar with Ikea Frames

Hey Crate Paper fans, its Bea here with you today! Christmas prep is in full swing over here at Crate Paper blog and I have been so excited to share my new project using the adorable Snowflake collection with you!  Advent calendars are an age-old Christmas tradition that are fun for all ages. Every year, I create a design to put a fresh and fun spin on this classic concept. This year, I came up with this super easy and fun, shadow box inspired DIY advent calendar. After you’ve assembled this design, fill each window with surprises to be unveiled every day of December.

First, here is a video, so you can see how works the advent calendar, and then the basic assembly of the shadow box and the decoration:

 

To create the base of the advent calendar, I turned two IKEA Lomviken frames into shadow boxes. Here in Europe, we count 24 days of advent calendar, but if you need space for one more day, I recommend you to create a pretty paper box and place it next to the calendar.

Next step was to attach tiny paper doors to the tiny boxes. I cut and fold varied paper doors with left to right or bottom to up openings. I used pom-poms or buttons to create tiny doorknobs.  

Since my children are not so young yet, I didn’t need to hide all surprises. I created paper pockets, vellum bags and simple paper rings to hold the other presents.

To decorate the windows I used varied embellishments from the gorgeous Snowflake collection. I love the fact that in this collection, the light pink and blue colors coordinate beautifully with the traditional colors, and it’s super easy to mix and match the embellishments with the papers.   

The gorgeous chipboard stickers, ephemera pieces, paper clips, puffy stickers and pretty pine branches  made my advent calendar festive and unique.

Snowflake Mini Album with Sandra

Hello and welcome to the Crate Paper Blog today. It’s me Sandra from the Crate Paper Design Team and I’m sharing a blank mini album, three card inserts and a shaker gift tag that I made with the cute Snowflake Collection.

 

 

 

To make the mini album, I cut a paper (size 6” x 12”) for the mini album cover and scored the paper at 1.5”, 5.5”, 6.5” and 10.5”. I also cut a middle piece for the inside (size 6” x 2.5”). This middle piece will hold the card inserts. 

 

 

The Book Binding Guide from We R Memory Keepers was really helpful for creating a decorated spine. I punched holes and added a stitched pattern onto the outside spine with colored strings. As a nice detail, I added three sequins for decoration.

 

 

For the closure of the mini album I used two eyelets and baker’s twine.

 

 

Furthermore, I added three strings onto the middle paper piece. Then I glued the paper onto the inside of the spine. Each string can hold a card or mini album insert.

 

 

In addition to the card inserts, I also made a shaker tag with acetate foil. And I used the EK Tool Confetti Punch to punch confetti from a gold glitter paper. I sewed along the edges of the shaker tag with my sewing machine.

 

 

Finally, I made three cute card inserts. These can be used as Xmas cards or mini album inserts. You can easily add photos and journaling onto the inside of these card inserts.

Heritage Scrapbook Layout with Lorilei

Hello Crate Paper friends!! Lorilei here today sharing a layout I made using the lovely Designer Destination Project Pad of Maggie Holmes Heritage collection found at Joanns!! I love how these project pads are put together; you get a lovely assortment of patterns, solid colour papers and glitter paper, plus stickers and cut-apart sheets! They have so much in them!

I was inspired by the sentiments paper for my layout. I fussy cut the sentiment I wanted “a piece of our history” for my layout and then decided to mix some paint to match the colour of that piece. I added some simple paint swipes with a dry brush and left my background to dry.

Next, I focused on my photo. I chose the solid pink paper from the project pad and two pattern papers. I also added two papers from the 6x8 Heritage Paper Pad and cut them all into layers for my photo. I love that you can see so many patterns and colours peeking out behind the focal area! It is a great way to incorporate papers without committing to lots of pattern!

I used a 3x4 card and a tag from the cut-apart sheet to add beside my photo for interest and to balance the colourful photo. This photo is one of my favourites of my grandma and my great-grandparents and great aunties and uncles! I love that the Heritage collection invites us to scrapbook important family photos!

Once I found the spot for my photo cluster and layers, I turned to the sticker sheet in the Project Pad. The flowers caught my eye, and I used Sticky Thumb foam adhesive to raise the stickers for added dimension. I fussy cut the yellow flower from the same sheet my sentiment came from. I chose a vellum floral die cut from the ephemera pack and to finish off the floral areas, I tucked in a few of the glossy puffy sticker leaves and added the glossy puffy butterfly on top!

For a few final touches, I added some sequins from my Carousel stash and some gold splatters, I decided to add a small pop of pattern at the top of my page by making a small tear and adhering floral paper underneath. I mounted my page on another sheet of white card stock for a subtle touch of dimension.

Heritage Paper Pad Scrapbook Layout Inspiration

Hi Ladies! Today Flóra is back. I am sharing a new 12x12 scrapbook layout what I made with the gorgeous Maggie Holmes Heritage collection. This beautiful line is now also available in Jo-Ann stores, so make sure to visit the nearest store and grab some of your favorite Crate Paper items. For today's layout, I have used the awesome 12x12 Project Pad. This pad contains plain colorful cardstock what are perfect for the background. I have picked a pastel pink and built my page on.

 

 

I really love the Keepsake 12x12 Paper what has this amazing vintage paper pattern. I cut it apart and layered the pieces on each other. I fixed them with white machine stitching. I also added a tag between what I decorated with a metal eyelet. After the base was done, I adhered the photo and decorated around it.

 

 

I fussy cut flowers from the Paper Pad and framed my photo with them. I added some cardstock and clear stickers and ephemera pieces. I highlighted some with foam tape. I love to add different textures and elements, so I adhered a pretty charm and puffy faux wax stamp.

 

 

Once everything was on its place, I worked on the layers. I banded the papers with my fingers to highlight the layers and mimic the vintage look. I don't like when the layered papers are flat, so this is a great way to add something extra to your projects.

Fall Recipes Cookbook DIY

Hi friends! It’s Amber here, and I’m so excited to be on the Crate Paper blog today sharing a creative mini album just in time for all of Fall’s delicious food and festivities. I had the easiest time crafting this mini album thanks to the newest addition to Designer Destination at JOANN!

If you didn’t already know, Maggie Holmes’s collection Heritage is now available in stores! In addition to many of the collection’s products, there’s also an amazing all-in-one Project Pad. It’s never been easier to obtain and create with incredible scrapbook items.

And with it being Fall, I wanted to use the Heritage products to create something that fit the theme! I had also been itching a make a new mini album. After some brainstorming, I decided to create a mini album that contained some favorite Fall recipes – a Fall Recipes “cookbook” if you will. I gathered some of my favorite recipes I make every year around this time of the year and filled out some recipe cards to fill it!

To make the actual album, I adhered two 12 x 12 patterned papers back to back. This way, the album would have a pattern on the outside and inside. Then, I trimmed it down to 7.5 inches tall x 12 inches wide. Afterward, I scored a line at inches 5 and 7 long ways to make a two-inch spine. I then folded along to score lines to make the book shape.

I then used an accordion style technique to add page dividers onto the inner spine. One this was secure, I began making my pages. To do this, I trimmed down patterned papers to 7 inches tall by 9.5 inches long. I made six pages my for mini album. I then scored a line at the 4.5-inch mark long ways.

I used strong adhesive tape on the sides and bottoms of each page but left the top edge untouched. Then I folded each page along the score line and adhered the sides/bottoms onto the page dividers. This made each page a pocket with an open top. The dimensions of each page were 7 inches tall by 4.5 inches long.

Once each of the pocket pages were secured into the album, I began my embellishing the pages and cover! For a few of the pages, I made fun little tabs using the pretty wax seals to seal them closed. After the pages were embellished, I decided to add label tabs to each one so I could easily identify the recipes inside.

I used the tab punch by EK tools make the label tabs. It’s the perfect little punch that added the cutest touch! I adhered a tab onto the top right corner of each page and wrote the recipe names directly on them. You best be sure I added my favorite recipe onto the very first page – my white cheddar Mac n Cheese! I make it every year for Thanksgiving.

After the pages and album cover were finished, I inserted my recipe cards into their designated pages. I adhered a ribbon onto the album and used it to secure the mini album closed. And that’s it, friends! I now have an adorable mini album containing my favorite Fall recipes to use as a Fall “cookbook.” It’s the perfect Fall project that’s as practical as it is pretty. You can also use it as a decoration to display in your kitchen, so you always have it handy while cooking in the Fall.
