Halloween Shadow Box with Bea

Hello, Crate Paper fans! Are you ready for Halloween? It’s Bea here and I’m so excited to share a fun shadow box inspiration here on the blog! Even though Crate Paper doesn’t have a dedicated Halloween collection, there are plenty of versatile supplies over the brand to do the job!

The base of the shadow box is 100% handmade. I altered a wood frame with adding wood dividers and painted them with grey acrylic paint. The inner slats are removable, so I can also use the frame to the original function.

I started my process with filling the little windows using patterned papers. I picked up black and white, orange and peach patterned papers from Willow Lane and Flourish collection. I trimmed the papers down to size and tucked them inside the openings. Next I added the ‘Best Witches’ title using the Picnic Alphabet stickers to the top.  And aren’t those gold letters perfect for Halloween titles?!

Once I added the photos, I started to fill all the empty space with black, gold and orange embellishment to coordinate with the papers. I kept the design clean and simple and added extra details with machine stitching and die-cut shapes. Each embellishment was in its own tiny window and as a whole, they came together beautifully.

I decided to add a hidden journaling to the top left window. To do this, I altered the black pom-pom frame and adhered to the background. I placed a journaling card to the center of the frame and added a folding flap using gold pattern paper. I used the orange thread bow to decorate the top, just perfect for Halloween!

Dimension: Handmade Treat Box

Hi! It's me, Sandra, and I'm sharing a pretty handmade treat box with you today. Have you ever asked yourself how to add more dimension to your projects? Well, for me, the secret of adding dimension to any project is to use foam pads and multiple layers of papers and/or stickers. A treat box is a great example of a dimensional project. Let's look at the box first.

The box itself has different layers already. There is the bottom piece of the box. Then there is the paper layer with the chipboard sticker in the center. And then there is the top of the box with the circular cut-out.

Instead of attaching stickers and papers just like they are, add some foam pads to glue them down. This will add dimension naturally.

When the light falls on your project, there will be a shadow. And this creates dimension.

On the lid of the box, I aligned cute puffy stickers and thicker stickers around the edge of the circular cut-out. The secret is to add variety by gluing down some of the embellishments with foam pads and some without. This adds even more dimension.

Dimension: Gift Topper

I love adding dimension to almost every project I make!  To me, it adds so much interest, and quite frankly I think it's fun!  Creating dimension, in my opinion, is all about shadows, height, and texture!  I thought it would be fun to create a dimensional gift package topper with Hooray! The delightful birthday themed collection by Crate Paper.

You will need dimensional adhesive to create depth in your layers.  If you don't have any pop dots or foam tape you could use bits of cardboard glued in between layers.  I have certainly done that in a pinch!  When I am inspired to create something with lots of layers and depth, I first decide on my focal point, so that I can concentrate on creating depth.  For my topper, I chose one of the pre-made cards featuring the super cute bear!  As I looked through the collection, I found the bear in multiple products and decided to use the same bear in sticker form and a party hat and stars from the foam sticker sheet.  I picked out a few pieces of ephemera and some papers and a doily for layering.   I fussy cut a balloon from the cut-apart "For You" paper.

The key for me is to vary the height of my layers.  I make sure that each height of the whole project is at a different height.  Not everything has to be on foam dots; you need some pieces to remain flat so that you can create different depth shadows.  I added foam dots to the bear sticker and placed it right over the bear on the card.  I then added the foam sticker party hat just as it was since it creates its own depth!  The balloon was placed on with foam tape (it is a different height than my foam dots) and kept the green happy birthday banner flat.

The ribbon on my wrapped package creates more dimension by popping up my entire topper!  I slipped foam dots under the four corners to balance the ribbon knot in the middle.  To finish off the package I used a ribbon to create more dimension, and it adds texture!  The pretty music sheet wrapping paper is from the Willow Lane Gift Wrap Book!

Hooray: Mini Album

Hi Ladies! It’s Flóra back. I am sharing a cute 3x3 inch accordion birthday mini album made with the Hooray collection. I love the gorgeous colors and happy party animal designs from this new line. I love to make fast and cute album what can still hold at least 10 photos. Here is an example:

For this album I chose a pink paper for the base, scored at every 3 inch and fold it.You can add pages to this kind of album as many as you need. You can also decorate the back of the album which gives even more place for photos. First, I created the cover featuring a lovely hedgehog with cakes and added a chipboard title. Around the edges I added colorful hand stitching.

On the first page I added a mini book created from insta page protector. In the first page I added sequins and behind 5 photos, on the other page I gathered different flags. Next page I placed a full size photo decorated with alpha stickers. I made three small label with washi tape on the top and fix it with a stapler. Next to it I placed a cake what I embellished with enamel dots.  I had few photos left so created a tiny pocket and put into 2x2 inch photos. In the front, I added a pretty bow. I wanted to decorate the back of my album so made the END title and added a cute glitter heart with a pink tassel.

Hooray: Cards

Hello to all CP friends! It’s always fun to be back and to share what I have created with the newest collection called Hooray! I absolutely adore all the cute & colorful illustrations. Hooray is certainly perfect for any kind of celebrations or even to just cheer anyone up! Today, I have 2 cards to share with you & they were really simple to create too. 

 

For the first card, I chose to work with  chipboard stickers. It is really fun to use them on cards because of the thicker dimension. It really helped to pop up the card. To begin, I stuck the patterned paper onto the white cardstock. Then, I adhered the frame somewhere in the middle and placed the alpaca standout into it. Next, I stuck the rest of the chipboard stickers all around the frame and lastly added the ‘celebrate’ die-cut flag to complete my card. 

 

The second card was a lot of fun to create too. I decided to go with fussy cutting, one of my fave techniques to do. Placing all the fussy cut illustrations and pair them with die-cuts would make the card look interesting too. First, I adhered the patterned papers onto the white cardstock. Then, I positioned all the fussy cut illustrations to fit into the pink paper. As I went along, I stuck the rest of the paper die-cuts to complete the card.

I really had a lot of fun creating these cute cards. They are fairly easy card to recreate. I hope you would give these cards a try. Perfect to make extras and store them into your card storage or box too. It'd be useful when you have a celebration to give out!

Hooray: Layout

Hello, everyone! This is Enza, and today I'm back with a layout created with the new, super fun Hooray! collection. I love the happy colors and patterns in this collection; the embellishments are adorable, and can we talk about the glitter? Just fabulous!

This layout is all about my little one's birthday celebration.

I started by picking papers and embellishments I wanted to use.

In order to incorporate a variety of colors and patterns on my background, I matted the Cake paper with two different patterned papers. I actually fussy cut the Cake paper along the diagonal line first, and adhered it back together to make it a little smaller.

I backed my photos with die cuts and papers from the collection before adhering them in the center of my page with foam adhesive. Whenever I have such pretty embellishments to work with, I tend to create layouts that are center-focused; I find that I have more space to surround the photos with all kinds of fun goodies ;) Here I mixed die cuts, stickers, chipboard and puffy stickers to form a big cluster.

The different thicknesses of the embellishments used give the page more movement, while the glitter accents add a beautiful texture. And that pink llama!!! Too cute! I finished the layout with two strips of washi tape on the top and bottom edge to mimic a frame.

I love how colorful and fun this layout turned out. The Hooray! collection is perfect to document any type of celebrations.

1 Product 2 Ways: Willow Lane "Cottage" Paper

Hello!  Thank you for joining me for a really fun post today!  I chose the 12x12 Willow Lane Cottage paper to see how I could use it in two different ways!  I adore the little cottages on this paper, and I am a homebody at heart so I knew it would be a good choice!

My first step was to fussy cut almost all the houses from the paper.  I love fussy cutting, and the houses are quite easy to go around.  I wasn't sure at first what I would make, so I wanted to have plenty of houses on hand! 

The first project I made was a piece of home decor.  We recently installed a new router, and I usually can't find the passcode when someone needs it, so I thought I would make a sign!  I chose the sentiment - "Home is where the wifi connects automatically" for my design.  I created a letter size canvas in photoshop and added an 8x10 box so the finished print would fit in the frame I had.  I did a bit of measuring of the cottages and the alphas I wanted to use and spaced the words out in photoshop.  I fussy cut a flower from the Blossom paper and tucked it behind the ends of the houses.  I decorated the houses with sweet little puffy stickers and added a layered butterfly for fun!

Up next is a mini album I made all about home!  I used tags for the base of my album and a ring to hold them together.  I have little houses tucked all throughout the pages.  I found quite a few super cute tags in the Willow Lane ephemera pack that I added as well.  They help to break up the big tags and look cute peeking out the sides.  I also found that the crepe paper fringe fits perfectly on the bottom of a tag!  I used one on each of the three tags for the people in my family.

To decorate the cover, I strung some wooden beads that I painted gold and added a Maggie Holmes tassle.  I fussy cut the bunny from the Willow Lane Friendship paper and punched a hole in the top.  The Cheerful alpha makes the perfect title under the little yellow cottage.

Crate Paper collections are very versatile!  The sky is the limit to what you can make!

1 Product 2 Ways: Crepe Paper Fringe

Hi! It's me, Sandra. This week it's all about using 1 product from Crate Paper in 2 different ways. I picked the Crepe Paper Fringe embellishment from Willow Lane. I like the colors of the fringes and they are easy to use too. They come with a sticker at the back. So all you have to do is to attach them to your project and add some decoration. I decorated a vase and a cute treat bag. This makes a perfect duo to give as a birthday present.

The vase

A vase with fresh flowers is an eye-catcher itself. Just add a few embellishments to give it a personal touch. I glued one of the Crepe Paper Fringe embellishments onto the vase. Then I added the pretty golden Decorative Trim with foam pads. Last but not least, the final touch added to the design is a chipboard sticker with a personal message.   

The next project with the Crepe Paper Fringes is a cool treat bag.

Treat bag | How to:

Grab a treat bag and attach three of the Fringes onto the bag. Then add some more embellishments of your choice. I used the golden Decorative Trim and three stickers from the Willow Lane Collection. Furthermore, I put a white silk paper with golden accents inside the bag. This creates a fluffy and special look. To round up the treat bag, I attached a paper strip with stickers and a wooden peg onto one of the handles.
