Teaching kids to be crafty is one of the best skills we can help them to grow, in my opinion! My daughter Hannah started crafting with me when she was 3, and I always have made sure she has decent tools and a crafty stash!
I wanted to come up with a project that most ages of kids could accomplish on their own or with some help. I decided on customizing mini binders. My daughter stores her art journal pages in these little albums. The binders are so useful for so many things, homework, journal, travel journal, art journal, recipe book, game notes, the sky is the limit! I had a few Avery Mini Binders on hand; an important feature is a plastic pocket on the front and spine of the binder. If you can't find one with the pocket, you could glue your designs right onto the cover with tacky glue or strong adhesive. The pockets make it easy to change out the look of your binder!
Start out by making a "kit" of products for the crafter. I am using Wild Heart by Crate Paper, which has gorgeous papers and super fun designs!
For the Hey binder, I cut the Palms paper to 7" x 9" for the background. I started out with the Hey card cut from the Wildly paper as inspiration. I added the parrot from the Embossed Puffy Sticker sheet; leaf die cuts and word stickers. I cut a strip of the daze paper and added the Charming Thickers alpha on top!
It amazed me that I could layer the pages as much as I did and they still slipped into the pocket with no issue. I did find that the spine pocket is quite tight so I kept that simple with just a strip of paper. You could glue alpha's right on to the spine as well! I finished off the Hey binder with the sweet pink heart paper clip!
For the Stay Wild binder, I cut the Thrive paper to 7" x 9" for the background. I cut strips from Hustle and Roar to layer on the bottom of the page. The Leopard card is from the Animal paper, and the Stay Wild card is from the Wildly Paper. I punched circles from the Roar paper to decorate the top of the page. Using punches is fun for kids and an inexpensive way to teach them how to customize with paper!
I finished this page off with a Stay Wild die cut and the leopard from the sticker sheet. I slipped a piece of Roar paper into the spine and added the leaf paper clip at the top! So fun, and great for a boy or a girl!
Thank you for joining me today! Even if you are not crafting with a youngster, you may want to make one of these cute binders for yourself!!
