Happy Halloween CP fans! It’s time to start documenting your favorite Halloween photos, or making some spooky Halloween décor for your home! One of my favorite Halloween collections is definitely After Dark from Crate Paper. Unfortunately…I love it so much, that I’ve used all of my stash! When I sat down to create a Halloween layout, I had the dilemma of not having a Halloween collection to work with…but never fear, you can still create the perfect Halloween look for your layout using a mix of CP collections!
I started searching through my collections and pulled paper and embellishments from Gather, Little You, Cool Kid and Cute Girl. It’s always easy to find papers that will work for any themed layout. Start with something neutral like the black & white star paper I used from the Little You collection. Then you can look for other papers that have the color of the holiday that you need. In this case, I wanted Yellow, Teal and Orange.
I cut a large title on the Teal paper from the Gather collection. This is a great way to fill your page and get the look for your holiday, when you don’t have many (or any) embellishments you need to go along with the theme. I couldn’t find any papers in my CP collections that had Orange in it, so I improvised. I always like to add machine stitching to my layouts, so I changed my White thread out for Orange and used it to stitch across the words in the title.
The pop of Yellow is from one of the papers in the Gather collection. I love that it ties in Yellow for Halloween and gives a separation between the title and my photo. I went with a black & white photo, so the colors wouldn’t compete with the limited color scheme on my layout. And I think it adds a haunting, spooky look to the page.
Finding embellishments to go with my Halloween theme was a bit tricky, but I made it work! Look for generic embellishments like stars that are in black & white, gold or another color that goes with the theme of your layout. I also found some Chipboard numbers and feathers from the Gather collection that worked with the layout. The numbers were perfect for layering the date over the white space in my photo.
When it comes to themed or holiday layouts, don’t be scared stiff if you don’t have the specific products you need for your project. Get creative and look through what you have, and I bet you will be surprised at how you can make your stash work for what you need!
