Hi CP fans! It’s Ashley, and I have a layout to share with you today using pops of color! You can add pops of color with patterned papers, embellishments or with watercolors/mixed media. I chose to use a patterned paper that included several different colors from the Maggie Holmes Carousel collection.
I started with White card stock for my background. This is a great way to make the colors you’re using on your layout really stand out. I used a butterfly cut file, and cut some of the butterflies from the Carousel patterned paper and some from another piece of White card stock. I wanted to have the pop of color from some of the butterflies, but balance it with a tone on tone look, too.
After I had all of the butterflies in place, I stitched through the center of the spiral design with my sewing machine. Then I popped up the wings of all of the butterflies to add dimension to the layout. I went with a black & white photo so the colors from the photo wouldn’t compete with the colors from the Carousel collection.
I brought in more color on the layout, with the embellishments from the Carousel collection. I placed a few around my photo, to draw the eye to the bottom of the layout. I balanced the color on the layout by adding a few more embellishments toward the top of the page. I also wanted some of the White butterflies to stand out a bit more, so I placed some of the heart stickers in the center of several of them.
This is a fun way to play with color on your projects. Give it a try with a couple of colors or a lot of colors. You could also try this technique with a dark background or solid color cardstock.
