Hi everyone! It’s Ashley, and I’m excited to share a layout with you today, using one of my favorite techniques…stitching! Stitching with a back stitch on my layouts, was a technique I learned way back when I first started scrapbooking and I’ve loved it ever since then. I love the extra texture and pops of color it adds to a layout or project, and I always find it very calming when I’m stitching on a layout.
I decided to go stitching crazy on this layout! There are so many awesome ephemera pieces in the new Carousel collection from Maggie Holmes and I wanted to use some hand stitching to embellish my embellishments! I debated whether or not to stitch the ephemera pieces before adding them to the layout or after adding them to the layout. The latter choice was the winner. I adhered all of my elements to the background paper, and then used my paper piercer to poke holes around each embellishment.
I wanted to use stitching on my title as well as the embellishments, so I fussy cut the word “Days” from the Radiant patterned paper. I didn’t cut right to the edge of the letters, but left a bit of the off-white border around each one of them. Once I was ready to stitch, I chose several different colors of embroidery floss that coordinated with the Carousel collection. Sometimes I like to separate my embroidery floss down to three strands, but this time I kept all six strands to create a bolder look on the layout.
Any time I use hand-stitching on a layout, I usually also like to include machine stitching. I love the look of the two different types of stitching. When I created the design of my layout, I used my photo and the embellishments to create a banner look, just so I could go back and add machine stitching to it once I had finished everything else.
After all of my stitching was done, I added all of my other embellishing to the layout. A few stickers, ephemera pieces and chipboard pieces were perfect for adding the finishing touches.
Have you ever tried stitching on your projects? If not, give it a try! It’s a really fun technique and I know you’ll love the look of it on your finished project!Carousel Products Used: Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel Sprinkles (379099), Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel Radiant (379111), Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel Stickers (379120), Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel Ephemera Pieces (379119), Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel Swing Thickers (379116), Crate Pape Maggie Holmes Carousel Chipboard Stickers (379118)
