Hello and welcome to the Crate Paper blog. Today's posts is all about stitching and sewing on cards. So, you just finished a card and when you look at it, you think 'well, it looks pretty good, but somehow there is something missing, a small detail, something to round up my card'. I've had this feeling a couple of times and then some randomly placed sequins, a splash of gold spray, some stitching by hand or some sewing on the card with my sewing machine did the trick. Stitching and sewing, that's what I did to add a final touch to the cards I'm sharing with you today.
On the first card 'hello', I sewed around the edges several times, leaving out the right edge of the card. I used a sewing thread in a color that matches the color of the ice-cream on a stick. I also added some stitches by hand around the little heart in the upper left corner. I glued the heart to the background paper and used a needle to make some holes around the heart. Then I stitched around the heart with some thick thread.
The next card is framed by hand-stitched lines of varying lengths. To me, the irregularity of the lines is more interesting, because it's more surprising to the eye than lines of the same length would be. It's quite effortless to add a stitched frame like this to your card. All you need is a needle, some sewing thread and just a little time.
Not only stitched lines, but also stitched words can make your cards more personal. For the next card 'hello lovely', I used a pencil to write the word 'hello' above the word sticker 'lovely'. Then I used a needle and stitched several small holes along the pencil lines. Before I started sewing with a delicate gold thread and a small needle, I used an eraser to remove the pencil lines. It's fun to turn your own handwriting into a stitched detail.
On the final card, you can spot details that were sewn with a sewing machine. The color of the sewing thread matches the color scheme of the card. I added some lines underneath the garland sticker and a 'wild' random stitching pattern next to the row of buttons.
I'm hoping you feel inspired to grab your lovely Crate Paper goodies, some thread, a needle and/or your sewing machine and then let's go for it. Wishing you a creative and crafty day.
