Patriotic Home Decor

Hi! Gina here with a fun patriotic display that is sure to please as a decoration for your next Fourth of July get together or to brighten up your own home!

When I first started making this decoration my original plan was to make a patriotic wreath to display around the house. I started by cutting out paper rosettes using my Silhouette Cameo. There are lots of paper rosettes available in the Silhouette Studio store, just cut out, fold and follow the instructions to put each one together.

I made my paper rosettes out of a variety of patterned papers from the Maggie Holmes Shine and Bloom collections. I used both silver and red glitter cardstock papers to embellish the center of some of the rosettes. I used punches to cut out the different sized center pieces and shapes.

Once my paper rosettes were all assembled, my original plan was to cut a chipboard wreath out of chipboard and completely cover it with my assorted display of paper rosettes. However, the blade on my Silhouette machine broke in the process, it was late at night and I didn't have any other type decided on a new plan!

I purchased this 12 inch ruler studio set from We R Memory Keepers a couple of month's ago and thought that a star display would be a perfect backdrop for my embellished pieces. It was easy! The rulers are already hinged together. I just followed the project photos that were displayed on the packaging to learn how to make my own folded star.

Once, I was happy with my folded ruler shape, I laid out how I wanted the paper rosettes to look in an overlapping pattern. I used liquid adhesive and foam adhesive squares to glue each piece down. After all of the pieces were glued down, I added a few more embellishments –crepe paper, standouts, chipboard stickers and a “remember” ephemera piece found in the Maggie Holmes Shine collection. I really love how it all came out! Totally different than how I originally planned it, but I think that is what makes it so unique!
