At first glance using layers can be a tricky concept for including in your pocket page albums. Those little pockets don't leave a ton of room, right? Luckily, for a portion of the year I moved into a smaller 6x8 album... and once I decided to work outside of the pockets the layers just kept on coming!
It all started with this fabulous letterpress card I received in a recent online purchase. I trimmed it down to feature just the quote and thought it might be really cool to have it hover in a transparent page protector. And then even better to have other bits and bobs layered behind and in front of it. Kind of like including a little mini album in my pocket page album.
To make the transparent pocket I trimmed a piece of a page protector to size (in this case I was using a 4x4 page protector) and stapled the tag onto the center of it. This lets me just slide it into the page protector and the tag stays floating nicely in the middle. To decorate the spine I covered it with a strip of patterned paper.
Next I gathered up little bits and pieces of other things that could make small pages. Bringing in a variety of sizes keeps it interesting. Some of my favorites for this are tags and die-cuts.
Punching holes in a large tag and using it as a journaling card is one of my favorite ways to add layers to my projects.
I played around with their arrangement as I went... constantly adding and subtracting elements.
Once I was happy I completed the rest of my spread like normal.
I wouldn't add this many layers in between every spread... but every once in a while it's a fun surprise when you flip through your album.
Hope you're enjoying Layers Week so far! Check back tomorrow for another project.
