Every long-distance journey deserves to be remembered - CP Gal Adrienne Alvis has just the right ingredients from The Open Road collection to make it happen, and more!
.......
My children and I traveled to visit my husband who was working near Baltimore, Maryland over spring break. When I got back home, I had the Open Road collection waiting for me on my doorstep. I was super excited to document our recent trip using the amazing collection! I knew right away that I wanted to make a different sort of mini album. I wanted something that wasn't bound together...something a little more interactive, if you will. Let's take a look at what I came up with...
I took a large vellum baggie that I had in my stash and cut the bottom off so it measured about 6.25" x 6.25". I stitched along the bottom using my sewing machine and some yellow thread to make a pouch. I embellished the front of the vellum pouch using one of the chipboard frames from the Open Road collection and some chipboard stickers. The chipboard frames are great for housing photos or just using alone as a dimensional layer.
A pouch style mini is a great way to keep photos and treasures together in one place while still being easy to look through, and store. I filled the vellum pouch with some of the 3" x 4" journaling cards from the Open Road collection and some 6" x 6" sized photos and patterned papers.
I chose the 3" x 4" journaling cards that I wanted to include in my mini album and printed my photos off at the same size so I could adhere them to the back of the cards. I embellished both sides of the cards using some stickers and chipboard pieces from the collection. The sticker tabs were great for adding a bit of height to a few of my cards, making them easier to pull out of the pouch.
I hand-wrote the journaling from our trip on the back of a few of the cards to correspond with the photos I adhered to the other side. I liked the idea of being able to see the full photo on one side and then to flip the card over and read about our adventures.
I also added a few 6" x 6" sized 'pages' in my album. I like to mix up the sizes of photos and journaling spots in my mini albums, so I enlarged one of my favorite photos from the trip and placed the chipboard phrase 'Day Trip' directly on top. I also rounded the corners of my 6" x 6" pages to coordinate with the smaller 3" x 4" journaling cards to help keep my album more cohesive.
On the back of the large photos, I adhered some patterned paper from the collection and embellished it with some Open Road ephemera and chipboard stickers.
I used some of the chipboard frames to bring my photos into focus on the larger pages. I sized them accordingly so that they fit inside the frames just right.
After I completed my pages and inserts, I placed them all inside the altered vellum pouch. Our trip to Maryland was very laid back and we didn't have any kind of specific itinerary or schedule...we just enjoyed each and every minutes of it together. I created this album in the same sort of way. I wanted something a bit more random and not so 'put together'.
No matter where you roam from home, The Open Road collection has everything you need for documenting your next big vacation or small road trip. I hope I've inspired you to think outside of the 'mini album' box and create something a little different and really amazing!
