It's an exciting — and slightly sad — time of year around here! As much as we love the changing of the seasons, we are going to miss the warm summer days. Before we welcome autumn (with open arms of course!), we wanted to celebrate all the blissful moments of the summer season. Who doesn't want to capture summer at its finest?! We are sharing projects by our talented design team members, who have created these gorgeous layouts using The Pier collection. So sit back, relax and get ready for summer-themed inspiration!

One of my favorite summer 2013 memories is going on a bicycle tour with my friend. We drove 14km by bike (one way) and I was really exhausted. Our goal was to visit a small town nearby that has a huge lake where you can kite and do boat tours. So, when we finally arrived at the lake, I was relieved (14km for an untrained is quite exhausting!) and overwhelmed by the beautiful view. I got off my bike and took a picture right away, which is it's own kind of a trophy ;)

My favorite moment this summer was seeing my son learn how to swim on his own. Even though he's had swimming lessons since he was little, he's always had a little bit of fear of the water. This Summer something just clicked for him, and he spent hours in the pool practicing on his own. It's been so much fun watching him learn to love swimming.

We went to the beach about two weeks ago, and I just LOVE the beach. We go every year, and my kids have so much fun. Owning my own business, I don't take many vacations...so, when I do, I really try to relax! My littlest one, Cami, makes that easy. One of the great things about the beach is just getting to SIT and watch the kids have a blast. I made a few sand castles, too, but sitting with my camera, snapping photos while they are playing is about the happiest I can get. Cami is just so calm, all week, she sat quietly and played in the sand. She got in the water a few times, but she is so content to just sit, relax and watch everyone else. I was sitting behind her and snapped this photo - I love it! I hope you can use the PIER to capture those last few summer memories while you can.
Summer of 2013 was a wonderful Summer. My boys are getting older and will be leaving home before I know it, so I really treasure the time we have together on vacations. This summer we went to the beach for a long weekend. At the end of the trip, my older son said it was the best vacation we had ever been on. I was a little surprised. We live pretty close to the beach so we've gone lots of times, but last summer we went all the way across the U.S. to Utah and a couple of years before that we went to the Grand Canyon. So, I asked him if he was sure...did he really think this was our best vacation? He explained to me that he meant it was the best because we had so much fun just being together - talking and laughing and just enjoying each others company. I love that. It was special to me that my teenage son still likes to spend time with us! It was my favorite moment of this summer.
We have taken many vacations over the past several years. We feel lucky that Ryan has gotten to experience so many things in a relatively short time. There's one thing that all of our trips have had in common, though; Ice Cream! As I look back on all the places we've been, I can pinpoint the spot where we visited daily (or nightly) to indulge in our family favorite treat. This has included a yogurt shop in Maui, the self-serve ice cream station on our Alaskan Cruise, a a rickety old ice cream shack in upstate New York, and the Dole Whip stand in Disney World, to name a few. Finding the spot is always high on Ryan's list when we visit someplace new. We have such wonderful memories of our family sitting and chatting while we've enjoyed our little splurge.
Today, I have two layout using The Pier that document our ice cream addiction. The one highlights our favorite flavors from the ice cream shop at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The Pier goodies are certainly perfect for a beachy themed layout!
This next page shows The Pier doesn't have to always go along with a beach theme. This summer, we spent a wonderful week at a place called Skytop Lodge in the Pocono Mountains. (It was just like the place in 'Dirty Dancing'!) As soon as we arrived, Ryan scoped out a little shop off the recreation room called 'The Tea Room'. It served lots of goodies, but we got hooked on their Cinnabon Milk Shakes. He had one every night! It's certainly one of our yummiest memories of the vacation and has been added to our list of favorite vacation ice cream shops.
As you can see, I used The Pier on this page and it has nothing to do with the beach. That's what I love about this line - it can be used in so many ways.
Pentwater is a tiny town with an amazing beach right on Lake Michigan. Growing up, I spent time there nearly every summer, as my Aunt, Uncle and cousins basically lived there running a local Inn. It is a magical place filled with memories, and this summer I was able to share it with my Husband and girls for a weekend jammed packed with beach time, parades, BBQ's, fireworks and those same family members. It was awesome, and truly a perfect summer memory!
