Hey everyone! I'm not gonna ask you the "Do you have scraps?" question, because I know you probably have an ample amount! Today, I'd like to share with you some quick steps on how to create my 'pie chart' layout using them precious Crate Paper scraps you might have on hand - I certainly can't bear to throw them away!
I love to look of pie charts! I think they look even better with stitching (typical me)! I'm a huge fan of hand-stitching and I try to incorporate the technique on most my layouts. Outside of the usual stitching, I use my circle dies a lot; cutting, masking and like you can see here, as a template for the base of my layout.
So, in starting this project, I put to work a medium sized circle die cut and sketched out three circles within a four square grid. I then pierced them all with a needle and erased the pencil marks in preparation for hand-stitching, which you're about to see.
Hand-stitching is tedious, but the result is worth every second, in my opinion. It's also very soothing and if you hand-stitch while watching a movie, you won't even notice the time passing! Good and bad, I suppose, I can get engrossed in stitching pretty easily. :)
With the circles completely stitched, I trimmed circles from various Crate Paper patterned paper scraps I had on hand, then using a pair of scissors, I cut them further to fit inside my pie charts. This is actually a really fun process - I love sorting out my scraps and finding that perfect design to use on a layout like this.
The rest of the layout came together pretty quick. I took apart the golden 'love you' tag from DIY Shop's Stand-Out Sticker Pack and tucked the main portion just beneath my photo. A stamped quote sits just on top of it, along with a kraft tag. Don't you just love when you can further customize the look of your embellishments? :)
Please, link me up if you decide to create a hand-stitched pie chart layout just like this one. I would love to take a look!
