Last week, I borrowed "Once in a Lifetime" by Cathy Kelly from the local library and was head over heels smitten with the words expressed in a letter that had been included in the book; a mother's words meant for a special daughter. Upon seeing it, I knew right away I wanted to create something like that for my girls. I've a passion for words, especially quotes. I'm also akin to altered tags, so I thought to myself, why not combine all three?
Let me tell you, it was a joy to work on this project, tags and all. I had so much fun mixing and matching both old, and new Crate collections. The colors lend all kinds of offerings and are a delight to work with.
Here's a glance at the tag collection as a whole. I think they look amazing leaning against one another. I wish the box was tall enough for the tags to stand upright all the time. The box design doesn't allow for them to do so, but requires they lay flat instead. Surely, I'll need to find a different box - which is not of too much concern because I love to shop!
For each base, I stuck to the same "Kraft" cardstock base. Also repeated is the placement of Doilies and Metallic Baker's Twine from the DIY Shop collection. When working of tags of this kind, I like top pick a couple of elements and repeat them over and over again. They don't have to be from the same collection, just of the same embellishment type; chipboard, brads and buttons.
By now, you should of noticed how many Crate collections I used on the tags? :) I love, no, make that ADORE, Crate's patterned papers. The fact that they work with one another so beautifully without even being in the same collection is a major BONUS for me!! I'm sure that most, if not all of us, have a stack of patterned papers that we save for that perfect project or photo. Truth be told, there isn't a "perfect project" per say, so make the most of that pretty paper!! You'll be glad you did - I promise!
I really like the number tab stickers from Party Day. I used them on each of the tags as well. They're not uniform in any way, except via shape and font - making them extra interesting to use!
Crate Paper's chipboard is my absolute favorite! There is always a new discovery when perusing Crate's chipboard options. I had a grand time choosing chipboard for the tags! Birds, butterflies, flowers, tags, frames and even a random bicycle made it onto to them. This is when I must repeat again, "Use those highly guarded, pretty embellishments and papers!" They're too good looking to sit inside drawers (in the dark none-the-less) or on shelves. They aspire to be included on a project, I'm sure!
I ended up with ten tags and love every single one of them. I think I will create more in the near future!
I hope to have inspired you with this first set - do consider tags the next time you're thinking of doing something crafty, fun and word-worthy!

I've done a few tags just recently to put my scraps to use more. Your collection and fresh ideas has inspired me to add a little message to them also. I think its cute!
