Turn this way, turn that way. Visit here, visit there. Signs, no matter where you are, there's always at least a few hanging around. Nearly everything is labeled. From street signs, to store fronts, city districts, bridges, and more, a sign of one design or another begs for the attention of it's passerbyers. Some are more inspiring than others. Our faves are often decked out in trendy logos catering to an interior parade of stylish wares, hard-to-find items not typical of the average retail establishment. It's these kinds of environments we love most.
So, to follow that up, this week's Creative "focus" is about super awesome signage, or "labeling". The team's been given the task to transfer the concept to paper. Awaiting are the first two projects from the designers Naomi Atkins & Megan Klauer.
*Note: The Creative Weekly Challenge is under renovation. We'll not be accepting entries this month. Thank-you!

I was definitely inspired for this month's Creative Weekly! I love signs and typography. Crate's new Autumn line-up went perfectly with my photos from our family's recent trip to Vermont! I created the sign at the top with hand-cut banners, topped with wood veer letters (LOVE!!) and used that for my title, "Hello Vermont". I really like some of the new word bubble stickers out with the new lines. I stitched the banner pieces to a large brown banner, and used some twine above for that natural, "Fall" feel. I love how the twine tied in with the awesome "happy" chipboard sticker (bottom left) that has burlap looking letters. I tried to mimic the typography a bit. Crate's new collections have quite the array of words/banner stickers to choose from. Also, the Acorn Avenue collection has this amazing set of stickers that look like ripped paper scraps. I went nuts with these! I used one of the cool new border stickers in the center because I love how it separates the two sides. I did a lot of stitching on the signs as well, and popped a few of them up for dimension using American Craft's "This to That" foam dots; seriously the BEST foam dots out there. I then used more Thickers to create the words "leaves" and "fall". Many of the new Acorn Avenue embellishments have a touch of woodgrain with pops of color, which I love! I hope all of these great new Fall products inspire you to get your Fall photos scrapped - the season goes by quickly!

I used the signage inspiration by cutting out custom title pieces with my Silhouette. The "homecoming" piece is backed with the bright yellow journaling cut from the accents sheet; making the title pop. It took a bit of planning to line it up just right; but I used the same technique with the 2012 portion. The Acorn Avenue collection offers a variety of banner pieces which worked perfectly with my design.
