If you hadn't noticed already, here at Crate Paper, we "LOVE" the natural warmth and neutrality of wood grain patterning. Since Crate's inception into the scrapbook industry in 2006, very rarely has there been a collection release without at least a minor hint of wood grain in it. Even today, our newest Fall collection, Acorn Avenue, includes a bit of wood. So, this week's Creative Weekly invites you to look at this famous Crate tradition, but with a slight twist - the addition of "color" and other Fall-friendly neutrals!
Our team has come up with a number of beautiful projects centered on this unlikely duo, which we'll share throughout the next five days. Also, is an invitation to have you join us for this week's "All Natural" theme!! Contribute a project of your own using 75% Crate & the going theme, to [email protected] by Sunday, September 23rd. On Monday, September 24th, we'll pick a favorite (based on creative merit) to win an Acorn Avenue Collection Kit!! We'll also devote some space to publishing other well-loved submissions! *Fresh, inspiring projects only - made from scratch!

I really love the Fall for it's warm colors, and for the material that the season evokes. I immediately thought to use some felt and linen in natural colors to maintain the Fall-like atmosphere. Even though I was tempted to use other colors such as orange and yellow, I finally found a whole range of browns from different Crate Paper collections to create this lovely card set, and they worked wonderfully!! Each card is it's own little treasure - and a thankful treat to share with friends and family!
In Japan, Autumn is the best season for sightseeing. There are Autumn colors everywhere - golden ginko leaves fall from trees scattered though out the area, the rich maples turn to a dark burgundy that is beautiful beyond words, and the rice ear grow in abundance. Autumn is my favorite season of the year. Whenever it arrives, I feel tempted to take out the camera to capture it's array of colors. Seven years ago, I took this photo of my little daughters. They're gathered around many acorns and leaves, and are excited about the new season. I was so happy to see this photo again as it brings back many memories, so much so that I had to create a layout with it.
The layout itself plays to some of the photo's "Autumn" elements. For example, I put acorns and leaves punched from cardstock into tidy, sunburst shaker boxes. Also throughout are scattered, falling leaves that I sewed down with my sewing machine. Lastly, I inked around the paper's edging with a glowing brown ink before tearing it slightly and curling it forward - lastly, there are of course, "TWO" of Crate's wood grain patterned papers. All of these things remind me of Autumn, and my sweet girls!
