Hi everyone! Kinsey here with a fun little tutorial on how to make paper look like pleated fabric trim. On the example layout, I decided to make pleated circles but this idea can be used in so many different ways…options make my heart happy!
So here’s a little peek at what we’ll be making together today…
Let’s get started! I used a few papers from the new Toy Box line for my ruffles, cut into ½ inch strips.
Using my edge distressing tool, I roughed up the edges of each strip (I’ve found that Crate Paper is the best for roughing up…I love how it ends up looking like fabric.)
Once the strips are distressed, I used my paper trimmer to cut them into 1 inch sections…(you can also opt out of cutting the strips into smaller pieces, I’ll explain that further down in the post.)
I loosely folded each strip in half (without creasing the fold) and attached using the Tim Holtz mini attacher…you can also use adhesive here, I just found it to be faster using the staples.
Using a pencil and some punched circles as templates, I drew a few circles on my background paper to use as guidelines for placing the ruffles.
Here’s another close up of the circles…
I used mini glue dots to adhere the ruffles to my layout (but any adhesive would work) by placing them on the pencil guidelines and overlapping each ruffle/pleat. I layered them so that the staples don’t show. If you are opting out of the staple method, just use the distressed paper strips by folding the pleats and adhering them to your layout as you go.
And the finished project...
I really love the way this effect turned out and even more, that you can achieve a totally different look by using different sizes and by making lines (too look like pleated fabric/ribbon strips). So fun! Thanks so much for hanging out with me! I can’t wait to see your take on faux pleated papers!
