Hello, it's CP Girl Larissa here to show you a Christmas layout that I recently creating using a Christmas tree design as my base. With Christmas just around the corner (yes, it's that close!!), this non-traditional holiday themed layout will serve to inspire you - never has a Christmas tree been done like this before! Come join me to find out how to recreate this festive & fun layout using Crate Paper's colorful Snow Day collection!
What you'll need:
Full Snow Day Collection
Adhesive
Scissors
Trimmer
Ranger Distress Ink
3-D Tape
Ranger's Plain Grungeboard Elements
Ranger Distress "Fired Brick" Crackle Paint
Doodlebug Design's Sugar Coating Glitter Assortment
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
Acrylic Paint
Brush
Markers and Pens
-----------------------
Using Crate Paper's Snow Day Flakes paper as a base and various stars as a mask, carefully spray glimmer mist on top the locations shown in the main image of my layout.
Hint: Practice spraying the mist on a scrap piece of paper before applying it to the layout. You'll want to have a feel for how it lays out once it's been sprayed.
Trim various various size rectangles/squares from Crate Paper's Snow Day pattern paper (approximately 1.5" x 1.5" & 1.5" x 3")
Distress the edges of each rectangle/square with Ranger Distress Ink using a sponge applicator - this stuff is easily addictive!!
Now, paste your trimmed rectangles and square in a tree-like formation on top your layout - the squares aren't required to lay perfectly. Sort of mismatch them to create a customized tree!
Start decorating each of the squares with personalized/layered chipboard shapes and phrase stickers. I dislike adhering chipboard directly to my layouts. I always glue them first directly on top of scrap paper and then cut them out via following the chipboard shape's given contour - this provides the chipboard with more contrast and separates each piece from the background of the layout.
Now add the layered chipboard pieces and phrase stickers on top the squares/rectangles. Feel free to move them around until you feel good about their location. In doing this, make sure to apply adhesive at the very end or use a temporary adhesive until you've solidified your placement options.
Following the pre-existing contours of the scallop lines on Snow Day's Melt paper, trim two strips for adding to your layout.
Adhere the strips to the layout using 3-D tape/Large Pop Dots. Overlap them just slightly.
It's now time to break out the paint and glitter! Embellish a variety of different size chipboard stars using Ranger Crackle Paint and Glitter.
In doing this, apply a thick coat of crackle paint - to assist with the drying of the paint, gently sway a heat gun back and forth over the top of the painted star. Make sure your using a Teflon sheet or some type of heat resistant covering to protect the surface on which you're working on when using the heat gun! Make sure to add glitter before allowing the paint to dry - as shown below:
Hand Trim these cute bulbs from Snow Days Sparkle paper and add the remainder of items to your layout. Finish up by adding some paint splats and drops - outline the squares/rectangles with either a marker or pen. That's it! Hope you've enjoyed the tutorial!
Wonderful tutorial, Larissa! :) It's so fun to see how you worked on a layout :)
