Today is the third Friday of the October. Fall is in the air here in Colorado. And I have another new sketch for you! Did anyone notice the fact that Guest Designer Lexi Bridges was discovered through the sketch challenge for August? I bet Lexi never thought that just participating in a blog challenge would lead to one of the most coveted Guest Design gigs out there. You never know, do you? Last month's sketch involved a lot of layers and clustering, and we got some great interpretations of the sketch. This month is much more graphic and clean, you'll notice that the elements are basic shapes, not specific flowers, buttons, arrows, etc. I do that on purpose, so as not to limit you in your interpretations. I have a good friend who can not use flowers on a layout to save her life. I decided that when designing the Crate Paper sketches, I'd go very basic for her sake. If you see a flower, freak out and decide that sketch isn't for you, well you're the person I'm trying to reach with this very basic design. If you see the circle elements and think, "I could put an A, B, C in those spots, that's what I'm hoping you'll do. Have fun and play around with what I'm giving you. I'm looking forward to seeing the layouts that you'll do over the next week. Here are the rules again:
- You have until midnight (MST) Friday the 22nd to work on the sketch. That's one week.
- Projects must use at least 50% Crate Paper products, new releases are not required.
- Sketch can be a layout, cards, tags, or other project.
- Scan/Photograph your project and send it to [email protected]
- Winner will be selected based on quality or invention of work and I'll announce them and share some other entries on Monday the 25th.
Here's the sketch, sixteen little squares tied together with a triangle of circles (or whatever element you'd like to use), each square could be a photo, or paper, or elements, or a combination. There's a lone frame hanging out there on top of the grid, it could hold the title or a photo, it's up to you. This sketch can go many directions, just look at the examples we've created, so very different!
For my version, I turned the sketch 90º tor the left, dropped 4 of the squares and nestled the framed photo and title into that spot. Instead of using all patterned papers or photos, I used different scraps of paper, chipboard elements, stickers, and brads from the Winter and Summer releases. I love how they create an eclectic design!
Jenny Chesnick's version kept more true to the original design, with the sixteen squares, but I love that she used two pictures instead of the one framed one. And her stitching of the squares really makes it feel like a quilt, don't you think?
I happened to be on Twitter when Ania Jo Lexander tweeted about putting this together last week. It was fun to see her excitement when she first got the original. I love that she used so many pictures, and that they are not all square! And using the tag instead of the frame, how clever! See how flexible this one sketch can be?
Now it's your turn. Show me all the fun and creative ways this sketch can go. I'm looking forward to getting a bunch of emails over the next seven days!
Great sketch Emily and I love how different each interpretation is - very versatile. I hope to give it a go this weekend!
