Farmhouse Harvest Week :: Petite Albums & Layouts

 

Today's presentation will bring you our very LAST set of handmade creations, but don't dispair, there's still plenty to look at and be inspired by before the upcoming weekend. Speaking of which, we're taking a two day hiatus from the event. Day "5", the BIG DAY, when we announce all the winners from this week's festivities, will post on Monday, November 7th - mark the special date on your calendar so as to not miss out!! Crate Paper Artist: Christine Middlecamp

Bringing further attention to Crate Paper's 6" x 6" pattern paper pads, our design team coordinator, Christine Middlecamp, has brought to life two non-traditional sized layouts that measure in at only 4" x 4" each! She's still managed to squeeze in her quintessential detailing through the use of smaller sized embellishments. If you find yourself with a host of smaller embellishments, consider tucking and partnering them together on mini layouts or other petite projects. 

 

Crate Paper Artist: Suzanne Sergi

This is a great gift idea that just about any friend, family member or close confidant would love to receive, a handmade recipe album! Suzanne Sergi formatted some of Farmhouse's pattern paper into tabbed pages, some with additional decorative touches, and a few with well suited pockets for popular recipes. As a finishing touch, the cover gives way to a beautiful title and matching kitchen cookware! Too fun!

 

Crate Paper Artist: Stephanie Dagan

It looks to be a popular day for albums, though this one takes the form of an accordian - delightful indeed, Stephanie Dagan treats us to another one of her beautiful photography displays. Inside the accordian, in addition to the photos, is an organized mix of Farmhouse's Journaling Cards, stickers and chipboard pieces. It's all carefully held together by a snippet of lace ribbon and sewn seams. Precious.

Amazingly, it's already day "3" of Crate's Farmhouse Harvest blogging event! If you're just joining us for the first time this week, a quick glance at the last two days worth of posts is highly recommended as there's been an abundance of projects and giveaways thus far - all giveaways are to remain "open for participation" 'til this upcoming Sunday {November 5th, 11:59pm Central Time}. - Gratitude Mini-Book Tutorial -

Hi everyone, this is Geralyn here. For Crate’s Farmhouse Harvest event this week, I decided to make a little 4x4” gratitude mini-book. It has some pockets which are perfect to house additional photos or more personal journaling. The mini-book is very simple to put together, and I have an easy tutorial for you all if you would like to make your own.

The Supply List:

Crate Farmhouse (Patterned Papers, Accent Cuts, Alpha Label Stickers, Phrase Stickers, etc.)
Several Sheets of Cardstock
Thin Cardboard
Sewing Machine or Paper Piercer, Needle and Thread
Adhesive Backed Fabric Paper, Wide Decorative Tape, or Something Similar 

 

First, I started with several sheets of white cardstock, each trimmed to 4”x8” and folded in half. You can use as little or many sheets of cardstock as you want for your mini-book. I decided to use 6 pieces, which gave me 5 pages and 5 pockets in the end.

 

Now take two of the 4”x8” cardstock pieces and hold them together, as shown in the photo. Don’t adhere the two pieces with adhesive, because you’ll be stitching them together to create a pocket. Using your sewing machine or by hand, sew along the left, bottom and right sides. This creates a top-loading pocket.

 

Take another sheet of 4x8” cardstock and add it to the pieces you just sewed together. This time, sew along the top, left and bottom sides of the pages to create a side-loading pocket.

 

Continue to sew the rest of your pages together, alternating between creating top-loading pockets and side-loading pockets. Here is a photo of my completed pages, after I finished sewing.

 

Next, adhere a 4”x4” piece of thin cardboard on both the front and back covers of the mini-book, to strengthen each side. Pick out your favorite Farmhouse patterned paper and trim two 4”x4” pieces to adhere onto the front and back covers.

 

To cover the exposed spine, you can simply use a strip of adhesive backed fabric paper or something similar in your stash. I used a piece of Studio Calico’s fabrip to cover my spine. Now your book is finished and you can embellish it however you want to and then start documenting things that you are thankful for!

 

Here is the photo of my completed mini-book again. I decorated the cover with some Crate Farmhouse phrase stickers, a border sticker, chipboard pieces, and a cute little Crate button. As for the pockets, I tucked in some Farmhouse Accent Cuts. The Farmhouse Accent Cuts are perfect because they are just a little bit taller than the pockets and I love how they look, peeking out on both sides of the mini-book.I used some stickers from both the Farmhouse alpha/labels and the Farmhouse phrase stickers as little tabs for the accent cut journaling cards.

Patchwork is vastly popular these days! It seems that around every corner, crafters are coming up with new ways to add patchwork to their projects - the options are boundless; there's the playful patchwork formed from free-cutting and messy paper piecing, and then there's the cleaner, more quilt-ish type patchwork like that done by Kinsey here - no matter which direction you go, it always ends up looking shabby and cute! We love this newly blossoming trend!! 

 

Crate Paper Artist: Michiko Kato

This adorable set-up by Michiko, with the balloons, clouds, title banner, life-size laundry sign, and free-flowing leaves, is one of our faves this week! We simply love it! If you look closely, the balloon bouquet is anchored by one of Farmhouse's buttons, along with perfectly positioned lengths of twine - too clever!

In moving forward with Day "2" of Farmhouse Harvest week, we've another delightful array of projects to share - before doing so though, we'd like to quickly direct yesterday's giveaway announcement. We're going to change it up a bit - instead of focusing solely on those projects you've completed or have planned for Thanksgiving, we're also interested in hearing about your Autumn themed projects! If you're without an Autumn this time a year, forgo the season entirely and simply tell us about your latest handmade ware...and again, the winner will be announced next Monday! Crate Paper Artist: Erin Stewart

Hello, Erin Stewart with you and today I'm going to present how to go about creating this sweet "Thankful" mini flip book! I used nearly all of the Farmhouse collection to construct it, which was perfect 'cause it's of Fall's entire color range. In coming up with an idea for the album, I wanted to remember all the things I'm "thankful" for this year. The leaf shape album seemed the perfect fit - here's how to go about making it!

First, trace out a large leaf and use it as a template to create your pages, or use a die-cut machine instead! I opted to go the die-cut route since it was easier...

If you've a sewing machine, bind the pages by sewing down the right edge (bundle your pages together).

Now, you've a perfect "flip book" awaiting embellishments and jotted notes about things your thankful for. 

Crate Paper's "Stand Out" stickers made it really easy to create the title for the cover - I layered a piece of Crate's chipboard frame beneath it. And quite conveniently, the alphas fit just above the sticker!

Adding little embellishments to each page is fairly straightforward. There's really not a whole lot of space to cover, so a few embellishments here and there in support of the theme is all that's required. 

Note: I pre-printed the journaling on paper strips - this hastens the process some.

I added a sticker border to the outside edge of my "Fall" page. I then positioned a leaf pin, along with one of Crate's pretty buttons with the assistance of hot glue.

If you'd like, tie a small section of twine or ribbon around the stem of the album. It'll give the album a more finished look!

Corn mazes are a popular visiting destination this time of year and in braving one, there are a lot of camera opportunities available that would make for an entertaining scrapbook page. To go alongside the fun images, why not try out a few non-traditional elements that might not shout "Autumn" such as Crate's snowflakes? Had you notice them on Jaime's layout? They blend seamlessly with the colors of Farmhouse's patterned papers, and they're not your typical snowflakes! The easily pass as "doilies", too.

Looking for a carry-'round album you can bring you while waiting for Autumn's most memorable moments to occur? Shabby and elegant, Rahel's mini album seems well suited for the task of portability and the documenting of daily surprises. She's created the album from both traditional cardstock and an interspersing of Farmhouse's patterned papers. A sewn seam serves as the binding that holds it all together!

 

 

Our downsized version of pattern papers are tremendously popular! And not only are they a hit amongst card makers, Crate's crafters love them, too! Why, exactly? Well, think about it - each pad houses nearly a full collection of patterned papers! Sure, they're smaller, but in many instances, it's just enough to get the job done - plus, you save from having to trim apart a beloved 12" x 12" paper! Yes, we love our papers as crafters, don't we?!

Farmhouse Harvest Week :: Saying "Thank-You"

Are you ready for an entire week devoted to Crate Paper's perfectly Autumn "Farmhouse" Collection? We hope so because the CP Design Gals have put together projects galore in honor of Crate's first ever, Farmhouse Harvest! This is a very exciting time, too, because alongside all the great projects, are a large assortment of giveaways - FIVE in ALL! And we know how much you love those! Enlisted below, or shall we say near the very end of today's post, are the must-know details for scoring a chance at free Crate Paper goodies. Though, don't jump ahead just yet, instead, let us welcome you to our first set of handmade creations from the CP Design Team....  

 

 
Crate Paper Artist: Lexi Bridges

I saw a simple version of a thankful wreath in a magazine and decided I could make my own, and also, make it more "me". My idea behind this one is that it can "work" double duty -- not only is it a fun decor item, but it's also a place to record thoughts of thankfulness in celebration of the upcoming Thanksgiving season.

To start off, rip multiple strips of cheap linen colored material. Forget measuring - just rip and wrap them around a wreath form like this. Be sure to leave a little "tail" at the top for hanging. 

Then cut small strips (again, no measuring!) from the varied sheets of Farmhouse patterned papers. Wrap them around the wreath randomly and space them out some. Then add orange yarn for for more color and texture!

Allow a few pieces of old lace, doily and table cloth pieces to make an appearance, as well as a few old buttons.

To finalize the wreath, sew on a "thankful" series of alpha stickers to the "tail". As previously mentioned, the tail is the "hanging point" of the wreath.

Old dictionary sheets, along with an assortment of Farmhouse chipboard, buttons and brads create a fun fall-ish feel. You can see that I've just begun to position my thoughts of "thankfulness" by cutting out leaf shapes and writing on them what I'm most thankful for - then, using CP's brads, I pushed them into position. Come Thanksgiving, I've plans to fill the wreath with more "thankful" leaves!

Here, once again, you can see how I've displayed my wreath. I placed it inside an old frame and added extra leaves and brads nearby for new "thoughts" as we think of them. I also added a mini pic of my youngest playing in the leaves {Clever!} with a mini clothespin as it fit the theme perfectly. And of course, a few little white pumpkins help finish off the newly created "Thankful" spot in our home. ~ Happy Fall Everyone!

 Sometimes, all that's required in finding the ideal way to say "thank-you" to someone is to take out a few sheets of pretty patterned papers, an embellishment or two, and a simple composition. Or, there's always the option to take the creation process up a notch just as with Amy's first card!

Don't forget to tell those you love "thank-you" this year and reward the party host with something handmade, like a card!

Maybe you've a pumpkin expedition scheduled at some point ahead, or own quite a few already, whatever the case, it's time to document them!!
