Who doesn't love to get their hands covered in gesso & modge podge every once in a while? I don't get to do it as often as I'd like, so today I'm going to show you how any style scrapbooker can get into the fun of mixed media!
I had an old 12 x 12 canvas that I had at one time attempted to paint for Ella's room; but just never finished. It's time for a redo! I covered it with Artist Gesso but didn't worry to much about the top as I knew I was going to cover it up with the Acorn Avenue {Pistachio Market} paper.
Using the Gesso as glue, I then covered the edges of the paper and canvas.
I created a custom Chevron cut file for my Silhouette and cut this layer out of the Acorn Avenue {Tags} sheet. Keep all those little arrow pieces! We'll be using those in a bit.
I used a good coat of modge podge to adhere this to the top of the canvas. Work quickly so this doesn't dry! We are just using this layer like a "template".
Now, grabbing the Gesso again, I slathered on a good layer right over the top of that modge podge.
Time to peel off that top layer to reveal a super fun pattern! Don't worry if the paper tears just a bit here and there. We're creating ART - there are no mistakes!
Let dry or use a hair dryer if you're impatient like me.
Now, using those arrow pieces that we kept from our cut; flip them over to the beautiful tag side and randomly modge podge them into your pattern. It's the perfect amount of color for our canvas!
Another custom cut file from my Silhouette - using the Sleigh Ride {White Christmas} sheet.
Once again, another layer of modge podge. I do want to mention that I like to use the "matte" modge podge so it's not {well} as "glossy".
I've yet to decide where this is going to hang in our home, but my 10 year old did request one for his room. I may just have to create one with the Sleigh Ride collection and a Reindeer cut for a few Christmas Gifts! Have fun and don't be afraid to get messy!
