I have a fun little stash of vintage fabric that was handed down to me from my grandmother. For the longest time I just kept it in my scrapbook room and then realized she would want me to "use" this stuff! Since then, I have done so many projects with it, and I think of my grandma every time.
Today, I'm going to show you how to easily incorporate fabric into your craft and scrapbooking projects. I'll be making a fabric flower and attach it to a headband, but you can also attach it to a metal clip, like the one shown in the above image.
Start by cutting or tearing two strips of your fabric. I like to tear mine so I get those great rough edges. The length depends on the size of the person's head you are making it for. Mine was approx. 24" long and 2 1/2" wide.
One of the strips is going to be the headband part and with the other, we are going to make the fabric flower. Using a needle and thread, simply stitch back and forth on one side of the fabric {as shown}. Do this the whole length of the ribbon and then pull the thread from both ends to bunch up the fabric.
Tie the two ends of the thread together and you'll end up with a flower as shown. This is a super easy technique that can be applied to any fabric or ribbon.
Using either fabric adhesive or a hot glue gun, attach your choice of embellishment. I chose the adorable chipboard accent stickers from the Acorn Avenue collection. Again, using your fabric adhesive or glue gun, attach the fabric flower to your second strip of fabric.
Simply tie it in the back to wear!
Now, I know that not everyone has a little girl to make this for, so I'm also going to show you how to use the same piece on a scrapbooking project...
I pulled together a few scraps of Acorn Avenue papers, and an old frame I found at Goodwill.
Begin by adhering your background piece of pattern paper to a piece of chipboard. {This sturdies things up as we are adding it to a frame with no glass} Continue to layer on your accent paper pieces.
Wrap the fabric "headband" piece around the project and adhere using either glue dots or a hot glue gun.
Finish off your project with a little quote and a photo of your choice.
Add your frame and you've a lovely little Fall accent piece for you home :)
