Hello there Crate Paper friends! Lexi here with my first tutorial - let's jump right in!!
Today I wanted to show you a fun new twist on making those ever popular rolled flowers. Now I have made these with fabric, ribbon and even paper, but I have been noticing burlap popping up in home decor items lately and I thought it might be fun to incorporate them onto a layout by way of a funky, burlap flower. Plus, having two boys I don't get a chance to play with flowers much so this was a great excuse ;)
All products used (expect the rub-on which was from the Cottage collection) are from Emma's Shoppe. This line is SO pretty in real life --- I can't wait for you to get to play with it too!
The process for making these is pretty much the same for any material you are using. Start with a circle punched our of cardstock. It doesn't really matter the color or size as you can trim it down however you want once you start going.
Cover your circle with double sided tape. I have used hot glue with happy results, but for the more acid-free conscious minded, double sided tape works great too!
Start by folding your burlap strip in half and secure it in the center of the circle. You can see I used yellow burlap here - it comes in a variety of fun colors!
Twist the burlap as you roll the flower. I used a glue dot to secure the end and tuck it up under the last row I rolled.
And here you have the finished flower! Trim any loose ends that might be sticking out and any exposed cardstock.
One way I like to use them flowers is in addition to die cuts. These die cuts are perfect on their own...
But when you add the dimension of a burlap flower on top, it definitely adds some interest, not to mention texture!
Buttons and brads make the ideal flower centerpiece. Punched butterflies would be cute as well! And here's how it looks on a finished layout {above}.
I think they also look fun on a card--
Now it's your turn! Take this idea and use some out of the box material (dictionary paper anyone?) to make a flower and add some interest to your next project! Thanks for joining us today and if you have any questions, just ask!
